To change the behavior of the mouse wheel in Powerpoint

The default behavior of the mouse wheel in Powerpoint
is that it changes to a different slide. What I would
like to do is to zoom into a slide seeing only a small
part of it and then use mouse wheel to scroll up and down
the slide.

Alternatively, I would like to drag the background
of the slide and scroll the slide by moving while dragging.

Do you know of a way how to achieve any of the two?

PowerPoint doesn't provide the functionality that you are looking for
without, pehaps, resorting to VBA or add-ins.
