My guess is that the codec needed is not available to the MCI media player
(used internally by PowerPoint) or it isn't compatible with the player. Or
the mepg does NOT meet the Redbook standard in the file format.
You can try to determine the codec being used, and then convert the file to
something more acceptable to PowerPoint. To determine the code, use the
GSpot utility (a Google search will get you to it).
As an alternative you can try my add in PFCMedia for free to see if it
solves the problems. As a benefit it should SIGNIFICANTLY reduce the file
size and the resulting presentation will play in all versions of PowerPoint
or the PowerPoint viewers.
You can down load the add in from http://www.pfcmedia.com

.mpg file will play in Media player but when I play it in powerpoint all i
get is a black square. I have the latest DirectX, video driver and updates
for both Windows and Office.
